Effective date: 31 July 2026

Solar Compare Hub (“we”, “us”) operates this website, which helps UK
homeowners compare solar, battery, heat pump and EV charger installers and
get matched with a single best-fit installer. This policy explains what
personal information we collect, why we collect it, and the rights you have
over it under UK data protection law. If you have any questions, contact us
at contact@solarcomparehub.co.uk.

Who is responsible for your data

The data controller for this site is Solar Compare Hub, based in the United
Kingdom. We are subject to the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK
GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. You can reach us about anything in
this policy at contact@solarcomparehub.co.uk.

What we collect and why

When you use our quote wizard. To match you with an installer, we ask
whether you own your home, your roof type, roughly how much your monthly
electricity bill is, which products you’re interested in (solar panels,
battery storage, heat pump, EV charger), and your postcode, name, email
address and phone number. Your roof type, bill band and the products you
picked are used in your browser to work out which installers cover your area
and can do the job; they stay there and are never sent to us. Your postcode,
name, email address and phone number are sent to us only when you submit the
final step, so we can pass them to your matched installer.

When you contact us directly. If you email us or fill in another form on
this site, we collect what you send us and use it only to reply to you or
handle your request.

Site analytics. We measure how the site is used so we can improve it.
This is cookieless by default and does not track you across other websites.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding and improving
the site.

How your information is protected

This site is built and hosted with a design where the people running the
servers cannot read the personal information you submit:

  • Encrypted the moment it is received. Your email, name, and any other
form fields are encrypted to this site’s own key as soon as they reach the
server, and stored only as encrypted data.
  • The host cannot read it. The server holds only the public half of the
key. The private key needed to read your information stays on the site
owner’s own machine, not on the host.
  • Unrecognised fields are protected too. Any extra field a form collects
is treated as personal information and encrypted, never stored in the
    clear.
  • Confirmation links are not stored in a readable form. When we email
you a confirmation link, we keep only a one-way fingerprint of it, never
    the link itself.

Some non-identifying operational data is kept in readable form so the site
can function: which form or campaign a submission came from, its status, a
spam-risk score, and timestamps.

Who we share it with, and why

When you submit the quote wizard, we share your name, email address, phone
number and postcode with the single installer we match you to, so they can
contact you about your enquiry. We may receive a fee from your best matched
installer for the referral. This does not affect who we match you with.

To check the postcode you enter is real, we send it to Postcodes.io, a UK
postcode lookup service, and to nobody else. We do not sell your personal
information, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising.

When you opt in through a form, we record the exact wording you agreed to,
the version of this policy in force at the time, and the date, along with
the network address and browser you used. We keep this so both you and we
have a clear, honest record of what you consented to.

How long we keep your information

We keep your information until you ask us to delete it, or until it is no
longer needed for the purpose you gave it for. We do not set an arbitrary
expiry date. When you unsubscribe or ask for deletion, we remove your data
and that removal propagates to any backup copies.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you,
  • correct information that is wrong,
  • have your information deleted,
  • receive a copy of your information in a portable form,
  • object to or restrict how we use it, and
  • withdraw consent at any time (for example by unsubscribing).

To exercise any of these, email us at contact@solarcomparehub.co.uk. We will
respond within one month, as UK GDPR requires.

If you’re not satisfied with how we’ve handled your data, you have the right
to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s
independent data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the
effective date above. Significant changes will be communicated where
appropriate.
